Emile Bou Dagher

I am an Architect who graduated from LAU in June 2018, and I am currently pursuing my MA in Urban Design at AUB.  I have pursued several internships/jobs in the past few years that have allowed me to gain a realistic view of the demands and challenges of the world of Architecture.

I aim to be part of the success in an environment of growth and excellence. I am an ambitious architect with several years of experience in a number of projects, involving residential projects as well as institutional and commercial developments. Those experiences have equipped me with a comprehensive knowledge of construction techniques. Specifically, my responsibilities consisted of (i) preparing BOQs, drawings and specifications; (ii) conducting regular site visits; (iii) monitoring the progress of work; and (iv) supervising contractors to ensure that the performed work aligns with drawings. My obtained practical experiences demonstrate the extent to which my skills are compatible with this position and have well prepared me to support the company's mission. 

Besides my expertise in design, I am also proficient in computer and technical skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office; Adobe Suite, including Photoshop and Illustrator; major Autodesk software, the most important of which are AutoCAD, Revit, 3DSmax and Ecotect; and 3D Rendering software such as Lumion, Sketchup and others.

In the context of volunteering for the 2030 Agenda, I believe that although construction has the potential to cause severe impacts on the environment, when applying the appropriate approaches and tools it has the ability to enhance environmental health, biodiversity, and quality of life. I would therefore love to be part of this urban development and equip our environment and cities with tools that allow us to live in a creative, well structured, safe, and healthy world. Because what I previously mentioned manifests my strong work ethic, perseverance, accountability, professionalism, creativity, and commitment, I believe that my qualifications would allow me to effectively contribute to the company. 

In 2012, I was extremely glad to receive my acceptance letter for pursuing a Bachelor’s in Architecture at the Lebanese American University (LAU). During my undergraduate studies, my studio experience provided a tremendous boost to my architectural thinking. The numerous urban scale projects I handled required analyzing and resolving complex urban issues. This has improved my ability to develop solutions to problems associated with poor planning. After years of hard work and lots of overnights working on projects in different regions in Lebanon and abroad, I graduated in 2018 and ranked second in my senior year project. Thus, my sincere devotion earned me a rewarding place among top students.

My Master’s in Urban Design at the American University of Beirut (AUB) has provided me with an in-depth understanding of the design tools necessary for the effective practice of urban design. It has moreover allowed me to integrate design tools with policy strategies and institutional analysis as well as exposed me to a multifaceted understanding of contemporary urban challenges. My MA has thus expanded my knowledge and furthered my capacity in the field. It has increased my chances of occupying leading professional roles in design and planning firms and in public and non-profit agencies.
