Ismail Abbas

After gaining a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Surrey (UK) in 2007, Ismail worked for two years as Production Chemist at Oxford Chemicals Ltd (UK) before re-entering academia with Lebanese American University (LAU) and Beirut Arab University (BAU) in 2009. Ismail is currently a full professor of Chemistry at Lebanese University. The main focus of his research is Environmental pollution and protection. His work involves:
1) Solid Waste Management 
2) Synthesis and applications of supramolecular compounds. With macrocycles, we are: (i) designing and constructing pilot plants for the removal of heavy metals, toxic anions, and organic pollutants from wastewater (ii) developing ion-selective electrodes (iii) studying host-guest thermodynamics of interaction between macrocyclic molecules and heavy metals.
3) Analyzing Food counterfeiting by using portable analytical techniques
4) Effect of lockdown during Covid-19 pandemic on Air Quality
