Najla Mohamed El Bizri; Medical degree: Lebanese University; Specialization Diploma: Lebanese University (RHUH)/ ULB (Erasmus Hospital) 2016.
Clinical Pathology (Laboratory Medicine Specialist)
After completing my post-doctoral residency program in Laboratory Medicine in July 2016, following 6y of training in Beirut (Leb. Univ.) and Brussels (ULB), I returned to Saida, my hometown, where I started working in medical centers and hospitals in Mount Lebanon/ South districts of Lebanon.
My daily work consists of supervising activities of technical and administrative staff of assigned sections (Phlebotomy, Hematology, Chemistry & Endocrinology, Serology, Microbiology and Blood Bank), ensuring accuracy of test results and making sure that standards of quality are applied in accordance with the institution’s policies and objectives.
I am in charge of introducing/validating new tests, methodologies and equipments, drafting/ updating SOPs, training of laboratory technologists and regularly evaluating their performance/ competencies, in addition to providing advise/ support to patients and physicians for results/ reports interpretation, answers to clinical questions and need for additional testing.
I am responsible of following-up incident reports involving the sections, maintaining an effective supply order/ inventory system, and continuously maintaining an efficient operation of the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
In parallel, I give lectures in Faculty of Public Health at Lebanese University, in “Medical Virology”, “Hospital Environmental Hygiene” and “Antibiotherapy”. This experience has proven my belief in teaching as a mean of academic and professional growth.
In July 2019, and thanks to my skills in Informatics, I created a website for “Syndicat des Biologistes du Liban” for whom I actually assume the role of “webmaster” by uploading official and public awareness activities, sharing educational and E-learning materials, and creating “members directory profiles” for new adherents.
In March 2020, at the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic, I was designated by Ministry of Public Health of Lebanon as member of an “Advisory committee for COVID-19 testing”, where I contributed to drafting procedure guidelines and evaluation checklists for accrediting Lebanese laboratories to perform SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR testing, and participated in on-site auditing of multiple laboratories and writing visit reports.
Finally, and as part of Continuing Medical Education, I regularly attend live seminars and courses given by international scientific organizations (CAP, CLSI, EUCAST, Institut Pasteur, EFLM...) in order to keep in line with the state-of-the-art technologies and advances in the different fields of Laboratory Medicine.
